Politics
Columnist Mag. Varghese Panjikaran

Born in Vayalar, Mag. Varghese Panjikaran had to do with politics
from early school days. However, he concentrated on his studies with the result of a brilliant academic career: Distinction in PUC from Madras University, First Rank in BSc (Physics) and Second Class in BE (Mechanical),both from Kerala University
Having reached Austria in 1974, he obtained his Master's Degree from the Unversity of Innsbruck in 1977. The 6 years of active participation in a Young Christian Workers' Movement brought him again close to politics, now the Austrian. He got married in 1983 and lives ever since in Vienna, with his wife Molamma and the two children, Patrick and Basil. As an employee of the Wiener Gebietskrankenkasse since 1984, he is the only Asian working in the administrative service of the Austrian Government Social Security System.
In this capacity he has been a friend in need for many.He was the director of Balakairali for 3 years. During this period he initiated the cultural cooperation of all Indians, from all parts of India irrespective of their religion. However,
the political tradition in him refused to be repudiated. He has given birth to the idea: "Asians are Green".

GREEN – more than just a colour!

It is an idea, a movement and a power

It is the power that played a key role in keeping Austria free from the atomic threat
from within, thus making this land safe for us and for the generations to come. You might have heard of Zwentendorf.

It is the power that is keen on safeguarding the virginity of Austria’s beautiful land- scapes against vested political and economical interests, thus paving the path for alternative sources of energy. Think of the Hainburger Au!

It is the power that enables us to have a new vision of Austria, as a land worth living
in for all of us from all parts of the world, giving hope especially to the youth.

It is the only movement in Austria where every one unconditionally believes in the fundamental right of all to live and build up their future in this land without any hindrance whatsoever.

It is the only political idea in Austria, which a Mahatma Gandhi would accept with his whole Heart. „Non-violence“. In a non-violent struggle the mighty youth-power of the incipient Green-Movement prevented the destruction of a Danube-landscape.

It is not an idea originating from a class-war past, be it from the exploited or from the exploiters, it is an idea that has its origin in the modern world, from the present socio-economical and ecological situation.

It is therefore a movement that goes beyond the socialist movement that unfortunately has become stagnant and has already made compromises with and even given in to the conservative elements. It opens a new world with its socio-economical and ecological concepts.

GREEN is the signal to move. Let us move and march into our own future and that of our children. Let us make this movement strong also in our own personal interest, to make survival in all its aspects easier and certain in this part of the world.
